件名: Important update for International Experience Canada participants under the Working Holiday category /

This email is for International Experience Canada (IEC) participants in the Working Holiday category whose Port of Entry (POE) Letters of Introduction are expiring in the next 30 days and cannot travel to Canada. If you do not fit the above description, please ignore this email. If you are a representative, please let your client know about this information.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in several temporary measures to protect the health and safety of Canadians, which includes travel restrictions that impact IEC participants.

We recognize that for many, this will mean delaying or even postponing plans. Until travel restrictions are lifted, we hope you can use the time to plan great adventures in Canada. Our country has much to offer, and we look forward to welcoming you when we can.

What does this mean for IEC participants who have a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction that is expiring soon? Important update below.

A POE Letter of Introduction is valid for 12 months after its date of issue. Once a letter is issued under the IEC program, it is considered a participation and cannot be cancelled.

However, if you cannot travel due to disruptions caused by COVID-19, and your letter is expiring in the next 30 days, you can contact us via IRCC’s Web form and ask for an extension of your current POE letter. You could now be eligible for an extension of your current POE letter for up to 12 months. The length of your extension will depend on whether:

  • you have already received an extension on your POE letter, and
  • if applicable, your immigration medical examination on file can be reassessed and extended.

Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of an immigration officer.

How to proceed:

  • Select IEC in the dropdown menu under “Type of Application”;
  • Provide a justification or explanation for your situation;
  • Fill out the rest of the sections on the form to submit.

Please wait until 30 days before your POE letter expires to contact us.

Please note that travel and entry to Canada are not permitted if the temporary resident’s purpose is optional. This means that anyone travelling for tourism, recreation or entertainment will not be admitted at this time. Even if you have received a POE Letter of Introduction, this does not guarantee entry to Canada.

Since May 8, 2020, the IEC Program has limited entry into Canada to only those IEC participants who have both

  • a valid POE letter, and
  • a valid job offer, which includes recent confirmation from your employer that they continue to operate and are willing to employ you.

This applies to all three IEC categories including Working Holiday participants coming to work on an open work permit. These temporary measures will remain in place until further notice.

If you do secure employment in Canada and want to travel, you will be required to bring proof from your employer confirming that you have a job lined up for you after you finish a mandatory14-day quarantine period.
